Hon.-Prof. Dr. Felix Wallner, Kammeramtsdirektor of the Upper Austrian Medical Association (Ärztekammer für Oberösterreich), points out that the medical profession is regularly confronted with the consequences of an aging society. “The planned health care research projects consider especially the situation of the service providers. For this reason, the Medical Association of Upper Austria is pleased to be involved in this new Christian Doppler Laboratory at the JKU.”

The Linzer Institut für Gesundheitssystem-Forschung (LIG) was founded to establish an institution that analyzes specific questions related to the Austrian healthcare system on a solid academic basis. The institute is a subsidiary of the Upper Austrian Medical Association and is in particular interested in the development of a cost effective healthcare system and the future role that doctors play in it. Due to the huge network of the medical chamber, the research output of the laboratory will be made available to a vastly expanded audience.
